Something quizzical at Ormskirk Priory Mark

What do George Harradon Mark Lodge No 956 and Ormskirk Priory Mark Lodge No 1019 have in common?   Is it A) They meet in Cheshire B) VWBro Fred Hargreaves, PGJO; C) They are both daytime lodges?  Answer B) Fred is DC in the former and secretary in the latter. And so when Ormskirk Priory Mark had no work for their Mach meeting, Fred in conjunction with the Worshipful Master WBro Tony Prior asked the Quizmaster to come over to Ormskirk and present the quiz that had gone down so well at the George Harradon Mark meeting in February. Ormskirk was bathed in sunshine on 28th March the evening of the meeting.

Visitors from 1019 RAM lodge

There was still a good turn out with visitors from Ormskirk Priory Royal Ark Mariner Lodge No 1019, there to support the Quizmaster, WBro Derek Gaskell, PProvGJD, who is also a member of Ormskirk Priory RAM.    The lodge was opened and with the minutes passed it was then time for the main event of the night; to elect a Master and Treasurer for the ensuing year. With one candidate for each post and after a series of “indicative votes” the choices were made, (unlike Parliament!)

WBro Tony Prior would remain as the Master and WBro Graham Radford, PProv GSO; (des) would keep the job of treasurer. WBro Prior thanked the brethren for their continued support and hoped that the Lodge would have a busy new season. Moving on, WBro Prior called on the Quizmaster to carry out the quiz.    Answer papers were then given out and an explanation of how the quiz would run was also given.     As it is the hope of reward which at all times sweetens labour it was time to reveal the prizes. Ormskirk being a posh part of the Province you can imagine there were a couple of good prizes. First prize; if more than one person got all 15 questions right, would be that VWBro Hargreaves and WBro James Roberts would duet on the song, ‘On the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia’; (the worrying thing was that they knew the words?)
Are we supposed to be doing this as well?
The first prize if only one person got a fully correct paper, then WBro Roberts would solo on, ’Tie me Kangaroo Down Sport’. Then with those famous words, “when you are all sitting comfortably I will begin”, the quiz was underway. The first half a dozen questions were done in total silence?    It was like being in an end of term exam, but all good things come to an end. What were the choices for question 2? What was the answer to question 4? And so it went on, there are only 15 questions but with repeats and humorous interruptions it seems like more. Then it was answer time, odd how it the Quizmaster who seems to get the answers wrong.

It is all done for fun and everyone enjoyed the quiz. Once it was all over the Worshipful Master thanked the Quizmaster for an entertaining and enlightening evening. The night was rounded off with an excellent meal.  We wish the Master elect and all the members of the lodge all the best for next season with plenty of candidates.
